Position Overview

The Electrical Schematics Designer will be responsible to create the schematics pages in the 2D tool Elcad for a light rail, locomotive or coach vehicle.The Electrical Schematics Designer is part of the electrical integration team which includes electrical designers, harness designers, architects and production support engineers.The Electrical Schematics Designer will report to the head of electrical engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare schematics using Elcad. Elcad experience is preferred but not mandatory. Electrical circuit design experience and willingness to use Elcad is essential.

  • Prepare and review electrical design to US and European standards (IEEE, NFPA, DIN etc..)

  • Prepare, review and submit technical specifications and proposals

  • Prepare, review and submit light rails, locomotives and coaches electrical concept of low voltage and high voltage

  • Provide support to customers, vendors, chain management and engineering management

  • Create, update and manage redlines of Engineering/Manufacturing BOM

  • Create and release engineering documents (redlines and BOM) via PDMLink, SAP and JDEdwards

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment, interfacing with factory workers, purchasing, communication with suppliers and customers, and interdepartmental interaction

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Excellent knowledge of electrical components functions and main characteristics

  • The ability to follow the system architect direction and to implement functional diagrams into detailed schematics using a 2D tool such as Elcad, E3 or equivalent using US standards

  • Expert in reading and interpreting schematics

  • The ability to interpret customer specifications is a must

  • Interfacing and interpreting system engineering documents is a key part of the design process

  • The ability to perform complex and technically demanding work within technical or paraprofessional area will be required

  • Preempts potential problems and provides effective solutions in reaction to application of concepts, techniques, knowledge, or processes.

  • Independently seeks complex solutions and unusual problems before contacting others

  • The role may require providing expert advice, training, and technical assistance to support staff and train lower level employees.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in related field with at least 1 year experience

  • Associate Degree in related field with 2-3 years’ experience

  • High School Diploma with 5 years’ experience

  • Experience creating schematics using a 2D tool such as Elcad or E3.

  • Rail experience is ideal but not mandatory

  • Experience is complex electrical designs such as automotive, aerospace industry is needed
