Siemens Industry Inc. has an opening for a RFID SystemsEngineer with the primary focus to provide pre-sales technical support tocustomers. This position reports to theCommunication & Identification Business Segment but works closely with theIndustrial Sales teams and RFID Sales Specialists to support customers anddevelop opportunities to grow the Siemens RFID business in the US. Serveas a technical subject matter expert for Siemens RFID products and associatedsolutions.
Assistcustomers in the early design stages through application analysis, sitesurveys, developing RFID system architectures and proof of concept systems,recommendation of products suitable for proposed solution, etc.
Develop“sample projects” using Siemens RFID products and SIMATIC PLCs to facilitateease of adoption at new customers
Provideconsultative technical support to customers during design, testing, debuggingand commissioning of RFID systems
Developand conduct in-person technical training, product update sessions or hands-onworkshops for Customers, Distributors and Solution Partners
GrowSiemens RFID champions throughout the partner community in the US by providinglatest and pertinent technical information.
Developideas and design table-top RFID demo systems for use at customer presentations,trade shows and training workshops
SupportRFID Sales Specialists and Product Marketing Managers in customer facing eventsand business development efforts.
Developand maintain “tribal knowledge” documentation and application notes for thebenefit of customers and partners.
Developcontent for white papers and technical presentations.
Collaboratewith Siemens RFID pre-sales technical team in Siemens Germany to facilitateknowledge transfer
OfferRFID product improvement suggestions to Product Marketing based on fieldexperience and competitor intelligence
Required Knowledge& Skills
Familiarity withHF and UHF RFID readers including RFID tags and antenna selection, HF/UHFreader configuration as well as common RFID industrial applications
Familiarity withindustrial networks and protocols including PROFIBUS, PROFINET, Ethernet/IP,XML over TCP/IP, and serial ASCII.
Basic knowledgeof PLC based industrial automation solution sets and architectures. Experience with PLC programming including ladder logic and structured commandlanguage (SCL) as commonly used in industrial RFID system control strategies,data parsing/handling, and host integration.
Ability tosimultaneously coordinate and support multiple RFIDopportunities/projects. Supportactivities include attending/running technical review meetings, timelyresolution of issues, offering best practices advise and applicationoptimization suggestions.
Ability topresent to small and medium size audiences the highlights and unique valuepropositions of Siemens RFID products and solutions
3 to 5 years ofsuccessful experience in a related field or role and demonstrable proof ofrequired knowledge and skill-set as described above.
Education: BS inengineering discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Knowledge& Skills
Familiarity andworking knowledge of Siemens SIMATIC RFID readers, communication modules, tagsand antennae.
Deep workingknowledge of SIMATIC PLC programming in TIA Portal environment as demonstratedby past work experience
Experience withPC host system application development using object-oriented languages such asC# and Java.
Work experiencein the Automotive or Aerospace industry – especially related to RFIDapplications
Working knowledgeof 1D/2D Optical Code Readers
Knowledge of RFIDproducts from Balluff and SIC
