Blade Design Aerodynamics Engineer

Position Overview

The Boulder R&D Center for Blade Design is composed of a multi-disciplinary group of engineering experts in aerodynamics, acoustics, structures, loads, and controls, who work concurrently to design new blades and develop new technologies. This world-class center offers an open, inspiring, and diverse working environment located at the heart of downtown Boulder, Colorado, an amazing place to work and live.

We are looking for an engineer to join our Blade Design Aerodynamics team and directly contribute to the development of new products and new blade technologies.

Responsibilities

As a Blade Design Aerodynamics Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Designing the external shape of new wind turbine blades for SGRE

  • Developing tools and workflows in support of SGRE's industry-leading multi-fidelity / multi-disciplinary / multi-objective blade design methodology

  • Performing computational analysis of airfoils and blades using models across a wide variety fidelity levels: BEM, panel methods, and CFD

  • Conducting wind tunnel testing to validate airfoil performance and field tests to validate blade performance

  • Collaborating with a diverse group of engineers in a global, team-based environment

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

Blade Design Aerodynamics Engineers are required to possess the following:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Aeronautical, Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil Engineering, or equivalent

  • Experience in aerodynamic design of airfoils and blades, or similar

  • Experience with CFD workflows (e.g. CAD, meshing) for CFX, FLUENT, and/or Star-CCM+ Proficiency in programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, and FORTRAN

  • Strong analytical skills, self-motivation, and emotional intelligence to work and thrive in a collaborative global-based team environment

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written reports

  • Proven track record working in engineering teams

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

Blade Design Aerodynamics Engineers are desired to possess the following:

  • Experience with advanced numerical methods and optimization

  • Experience working in a Linux environment with computing clusters

  • Experience authoring scientific papers and technical reports

  • Experience working in a large international company
