Job Description:

Siemens Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS) is hiring a Manager for the new US branch of its Digital Lab, located in Austin TX. In this role, you will be a true entrepreneur and take responsibility for the creation, development and ongoing management of an Innovation Lab for Connected Mobility in the US.

The ITS Digital Lab focuses on the development of innovative, data-driven applications and services to solve traffic related issues for smart cities – building on cutting edge technologies and introducing new business models. Together with the existing Digital Lab in Munich Germany, your team will harness the rapidly growing amount of data in the area of road and city mobility to enhance mobility, improve traffic flow, manage operators’ fleets and increase transportation efficiency, while also improving safety, reducing fuel consumption and environmental impact. Major areas of action in the US lab are: Advanced Traffic Management (ATMS), Automobile Connectivity (V2x), and functions enabling Self-Driving Vehicles. This includes development of new applications and services, generating value to our customers early on, i.e. from prototypes through Minimal Viable Products (MVP) up to scalable solutions to our customers’ challenges.

In the role of the Manager ITS Digital Lab North America , you will be driving innovation in co-creation with lead customers to shape the future of mobility. Your successful and inspirational leadership of the technical development team as well as your innovation-driven customer interaction will result in new business models, novel data-driven use cases and attractive business opportunities. Your management responsibilities will also include the identification, hiring and development of appropriate resources, the development of a US specific customer approach and use case portfolio, as well as the financial management of the organization.

The Manager of the ITS Digital Lab reports directly to the Head of Intelligent Traffic Systems in the US as well as to the Head of the Digital Lab in Germany.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership:

  1. Building the team from a technical, business and development perspective, i.e. hiring and ensuring the required competencies and a start-up mindset

  2. Leading the overall team, incl. functional management as well as coaching the team to grow professionally

  3. Contributing to the Performance Management Process, e.g. setting ambitious targets as well as driving the evaluation process and competency development of the team

Value Generation:

  1. Identification of business opportunities and US-specific value propositions from data analytics and AI-enabled applications & services for both existing and potential new customer groups

  2. Close cooperation and alignment with the Digital Lab organization in Munich (Germany) and the network of other Digital Lab satellite organizations in the world

  3. Management and implementation of pilot projects & minimal viable products in cooperation with customers with data analytics and artificial intelligence as a basis for the implementation of scalable data-driven applications and services

  4. Implementing, adapting and jointly advancing ITS Digital Lab processes regarding software development, roles, and operating model

  5. Develop local business with a global mindset (i.e. globally relevant and scalable solutions), as stand-alone solutions / services or enhancing existing solutions / services

  6. Support other Siemens ITS projects and teams with data analytics and insights from data to provide additional customer value

  7. Cooperation with universities, PPP facilitators, and innovative companies on both research and business development topics

  8. Support of marketing and communication activities in the US through public presentations, participation in trade fairs, newspaper articles, and publishing of success stories

Requirements

  1. Master’s or PhD., preferably in the areas of (traffic) engineering, computer science or mathematics

  2. At least 10 years work experience, with at least 5 years in IT (B2C / B2B software, solutions, IT service)

  3. Extensive proven experience with IT projects, esp. agile development (SCRUM), rapid prototyping, and cloud-based solutions

  4. Proven experience as successful manager of small and medium sized teams

  5. Experience in data-driven applications or services, data analytics, and artificial intelligence

  6. Experience in customer co-creation

  7. Proven innovation mindset

  8. Strong capabilities in execution (incl. strategic and conceptual thinking) and leadership (incl. strength in inspiring and motivating a team)

  9. Strong entrepreneurial spirit / start-up mindset

  10. Strong aptitude for customer facing presentations

  11. Excellent communication skills, especially towards senior management

  12. Excitement for topics around shaping the future of mobility, and ideally experience in mobility relevant areas, such as traffic management or fleet management

  13. Personal drive, goal orientation and self-motivation
