The Siemens R&D team is looking for a R&D Engineer to join our team in Electrification and Automation division. In this role, you will primarily be responsible for the continuous engineering and product care activities of existing medium voltage products as well supporting ongoing development projects. You will work in a matrix style organization requiring interdepartmental coordination skills and the ability to manage competing priorities. Headquartered in Wendell, NC, the EA R&D team executes a diverse portfolio of projects for low- and medium-voltage power distribution equipment. Role Description:

  • Lead identification and implementation of design improvements of existing products

  • Manage specifications and requirements mainly for medium voltage products

  • Report on status of design changes and investigations to R&D management

  • Update and maintain specifications, drawings, and assemblies as needed

  • Design custom test fixtures and test programs to investigate component performance

  • Clarify the details of designs for procurement (specifications, selecting suppliers, terms of business) in collaboration with the purchasing department

  • Supervise manufacturing and critical component quality alongside quality assurance professionals

  • Act as a subject matter expert for medium voltage product portfolio

You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering from an accredited university or college

  • 7+ years of experience working with electrical distribution equipment required

  • Excellent PC skills including Microsoft Office tools

  • Experience working 3D CAD

  • Ability to travel approximately 15%

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited university or college

  • 10+ years’ experience in continuous engineering or product development environment

  • Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, UL and NEMA standards for power distribution equipment. In specific for Medium Voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.

  • Located in Raleigh/Durham metro or willing to relocate

  • The pay range for this position is $98,000 - $133,000. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications and premium geographic location.
