Position Overview

The Research in Digitalization and Automation (RDA), as part of Siemens Corporate Technology (CT), is at the heart of Siemens R&D. Siemens CT is seeking a Software Architect for cloud computing to be part of our US System Integration Research Group of IT Platforms Technology Field in Princeton NJ. The focus will be on architecting advanced cloud-based software platforms and integrating those technologies into Siemens products and solutions in collaboration with the Siemens Business Units. This position reports to the Head, Research Group, System Integration US of the IT Platforms Technology Field.

This Technology Field consists of 8 Research Groups in 5 countries (US, Germany, Austria, China and India). We architect and build vertical IT platforms in the areas of Cloud Computing, Mobile Computing including Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality systems, cross-domain System of Systems, Smart Embedded Systems, and Social Computing and Collaboration Systems. These platforms are built to become the digital foundations for Siemens products and services created by the various Siemens Business Units.


The candidate will be responsible for identifying, validating, and integrating cutting‐edge technologies from academia and commercial partners into Siemens IT platforms by working with Siemens Business Units.

  • Identify leading innovative technological advances in cloud computing (from industry platform leaders, startups, and universities)

  • Evaluate technologies for applicability in Operational Technology (OT) products and solutions

  • Architect migration and development projects with the Siemens Business Units, contribute to business case definition from a software architect’s perspective and implement proof of concepts/feasibility studies

  • Define patterns for migration of existing Siemens software products/solutions to the cloud and for cloud-native software development

  • Hands-on software development and scripting to implement Cloud Proof-of-Concepts, automation and orchestration

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • MS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering

  • 6+ years of professional experience in software engineering

  • Hands-on experience with one or more of the leading cloud computing technologies such as Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure. Certification preferred but not required.

  • Experience with container technologies, cloud orchestration tools and continuous delivery/DevOps tooling.

  • Experience with cloud-native software architectures/development

  • Familiar with datacenter IT architectures and common used system software such as Windows Server, Active Directory

  • Hands-on experience with OS scripting and automation tools

  • Ability and motivation to learn and use new technologies

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills in English required.

  • The ability to multitask and make lead contributions in several projects.
