The Research in Digitalization and Automation (RDA), as part of Siemens Corporate Technology (CT), is at the heart of Siemens R&D. Control System Runtime Platform is a key technology of the automation of the future and therefore extremely relevant for the many Siemens’ businesses and customer worldwide.

We are seeking a dynamic leadership professional to be based in Princeton, NJ to lead our research group. The technology field ‘Automation & Control’ has a clear focus on the topics of control systems and runtime architectures. The team is a key part of our worldwide automation & control activities in 13 research groups in USA, China, India and Germany.

Responsibilities:

  • Budget responsibility of a >5$ million budget for the local research group

  • Manage, coach and develop up to 20 -25 direct reports including temporary staff (contractors, students).

  • Contribute to the Technology Field’s strategy and roadmap, and align globally to ensure implementation and execution.

  • Build Siemens-internal network to acquire projects to achieve the revenue targets; maintain relationship to the business units within Siemens.

  • Interact with R&D heads and Technology Field heads.

  • Assist developing brand recognition externally by networking with industry experts, attending conferences and partnering with universities.

  • Collaborate with CT Research Groups to build larger products and integrate into comprehensive solutions.

  • Participate and lead projects with Siemens businesses, including research and development as well as technical consulting.

  • Seen as Subject Matter Expert in Runtime Architecture, Automation & Control and related areas; contribute as a technical and strategic expert to diverse workgroups.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Masters in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline is required.

  • PhD in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline is preferred.

  • 10+ years of experience in related field and successful demonstration of key responsibilities including project leadership roles; proven track record in academia, industry or military/government.

  • 5+ years experience with Control System Runtime Platform, such as PLC, Motion/Robot Control etc.

  • Proven track record with the design and architecture of embedded systems, IoT devices

  • 3+ years of supervisory experience or program/project management engagement leading teams in an R&D environment required.

  • Highly motivated and driven business professional with a can-do attitude

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills in English required. Capable of presenting complex technical topics in a clear and structured was, ability to moderate discussions, meetings, and projects. Proficiency in German is a plus.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a growing, dynamic and international team with a strong customer service orientation.

  • Willingness to travel 25% (domestic/international).
