Turbine Service Apprentice

We help our customers meet their long term energy needs - and that provides long term career opportunities.

Our Penn Hall facility is located east of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is home to Siemens energy Service's Turbine Generator Field Services. From this location (and with team members located across the Americas), we perform major repairs, upgrades, maintenance and inspection on the turbine generator fleets of Siemens, Westinghouse, Allis Chalmers and Parsons. Our Team can perform almost any major service offered by the factory and service can be performed at a customer site.

Are you ready to travel domestically and internationally? If so, we have an opportunity for you to join our newly created Apprenticeship Program for Machining or Blading/Welding.

Apprentices will train in field service by receiving a combination of classroom and on-the-job training. Upon completion of the 4 year program, apprentices will have the necessary technical, customer and operational skills to effectively function as a Machinist or Blader/Welder.

This comprehensive, multi-year program consists of technical pre-requisites, certifications, classroom education along with operational and process training. Further safety and quality skills will be developed.


These positions will perform machining operations in the field through the utilization of a variety of machine tools and related equipment.

  • Assist with machining operations including: drilling, reaming, boring, counter boring and tapping, milling machines, boring bars, instruments and gauges.

  • Perform basic blading work including: riveting, seals, blade heating and blade removal.

  • Review contents of work packages and assist in determining requirements of process specification, machine components and other related information to meet those requirements.

  • Assist with the final assembly of multiple components by maintaining finish alignment and assuring accuracy.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED with basic technical knowledge and aptitude

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Ability and willingness to travel at least 75% of the time

  • Ability and willingness to complete required classroom training

  • Ability and willingness to work overtime

  • Ability and willingness to work various shift assignments

  • Ability to do basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division

  • Willing to accept domestic and international field assignments and to work at nuclear power plants

  • Must be able to operate hand and power tools

  • Complete and assume responsibility for maintaining personal Time and Expense reports on a weekly basis

  • Perform all functions in a safe and efficient manner and maintain a safe working environment that abides by the division safety policy.

  • Must be able to enter and exit generator and climb and work in awkward positions inside a generator frame

  • Qualified applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States and will not require employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Some technical education

  • Ability to read/interpret drawings

  • Previous work experience
