This is key position within the Siemens Legal Department that provides support to the Mobility Division on all legal matters related to rail infrastructure projects arising in North American operations.
The main areas of focus include:
Litigation support and legal evaluation of potential claim opportunities
Review and evaluation of public procurement contracts, requests for proposals and contracts with class 1 freight railroads as well as legal advice on applicable laws and risk mitigation strategies
Knowledge of legal issues in Rail Transportation Industry, Public Infrastructure, and Construction law
Coordination of legal advice with external; counsel as well as in-house Siemens legal personnel around the world
Ability to work closely with management and contribute to the success of the business by providing practical legal and business advice
Strong legal writing skills
In this role, the attorney will be responsible for supporting the legal needs for the Mobility Division operations in the United States. The attorney will work closely with other Legal Counsel and Contract Managers as well as business partners to provide legal advice and approvals where required during public procurements and/or contract negotiations as well as throughout project execution. The attorney should have proven ability to draft and negotiate contracts with public and private customers, suppliers and vendors, and be able to draft sophisticated legal advocacy position papers, claims, and legal analysis. Experience in the transit and or freight railroad markets is highly desirable. The position is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. However, the role also comprises responsibility for Siemens Mobility’s operations in Louisville, Kentucky. Therefore, a regular presence in Louisville and corresponding willingness to travel is required.
*Analyze, evaluate and resolve diverse matters with government agencies or commercial customers.
*Investigate, evaluate and resolve project and contract conflicts.
*Conduct legal research and writing; and provide ongoing legal support within territory.
*Review and provide legal advice relating to high profile contracts, subcontracts, bids, equipment agreements, sales transactions, project implementation issues, and general corporate matters.
Support claim management efforts to protect projects and prepare legal claims *Manage outside counsel, and supervise arbitration and litigation proceedings.
*Develop risk mitigation and settlement strategies and negotiate and finalize settlement agreements where necessary.
*Develop and provide legal/compliance training to organization, and work with corporate executives to ensure adherence to corporate policies.
*JD required and must be admitted/licensed to practice law in one or more states, with the ability to be admitted to the PA Bar.
*Minimum of 7 years of legal experience in a construction/contracts/commercial transactions in a law firm or corporate in-house position required.
- Experience in the transit and or freight railroad markets is highly desirable
*Proven track record in commercial transactions and litigation.
*Excellent interpersonal communications skills (written and verbal) required.
*Negotiation abilities a must.
*Proven strong legal writing skills required
*Highly proficient technical skills in MS Office Suite.
*Team player who can also work independently and thrives in a fast paced environment.
*Willingness to travel (at least 25%), primarily to Louisville, Kentucky.
*Experience with construction / infrastructure projects and government contracts preferred
