Job Description:

Position Overview

The Product Engineering Specialist will be responsible for engineered-to-order induction motor designs.

  • The engineer will be accountable for meeting milestone dates on creation of customer-facing performance data documents and bills of material.

  • The position will report to the Electrical Engineering Manager within the Product Engineering Department, which is a sub-unit within the large induction motors business based in Norwood, OH, USA.This business supports the entire lifecycle – that is, marketing of new products through service and decommissioning – of large induction motors within the Siemens Process Industries and Drives business unit.

Responsibilities

  • As part of the main customer value stream, the engineer will be responsible for reading customer requirements on an order-by-order basis and creating an electric motor design that fulfills them.

  • The engineer will also be responsible for supporting other departments within the business and managing small projects.

  • Specific job functions and tasks:

  • Create electrical designs for large 3-phase induction motors

  • Create bills of material and instructions for manufacturing

  • Create customer-facing motor performance data

  • Support manufacturing departments during building of the design

  • Provide designs for marketing quotations

  • Coordinate projects to implement product or process enhancements

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required.

  • Travel is rare but may be required under special circumstances.

  • Intermediate-level use of Microsoft Excel and Word

  • Technical writing

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical colleagues

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Educational focus on electric machines

  • 2 – 4 years of experience in electrical product design or manufacturing

  • Demonstrable knowledge of any of the following areas:

  • Variable frequency drives

  • Medium voltage insulation design

  • Power systems analysis

  • Airflow, heat transfer and thermodynamics
