The focus of this position is on consumables design, specifically focused around process development, design transfer and manufacturing integration. In this position, the individual will work closely with R&D in developing manufacturing processes and equipment for diagnostic products. The individual will work with the R&D team onsite and offsite manufacturing team to provide concurrent engineering feedback and input to facilitate process development for a smooth transfer of new products/processes into manufacturing
Specific duties include:
Support process development actives in an R&D environment with transition into commercially viable large-scale operations
Work with tooling and automation engineers to help define new tooling/fixturing required for manufacturing needs with a focus towards large-scale
Collaboration with R&D, Manufacturing, and sourcing teams to create specifications, acceptance standards, enhance manufacturability, and qualify vendors
Perform detailed analysis and troubleshooting activities by gathering data related to proper utilization of company labor, equipment, materials and facilities
Participating in identifying and selecting external supply partners/equipment to establish unit operations and where applicable help establish and manage relationships with external partners.
Optimize processes using Lean Manufacturing tools
Hands-on chemistry experience is a plus.
Facilitating feasibility, pilot and production builds
BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent
Applied knowledge and at least 8 years of direct experience preferred in the development of high volume manufacturing processes of medical consumables. Candidate must have significant demonstrated experience on complex, high volume, automated machine design and have enough breadth of experience to facilitate the unit and investment cost-based analyses of multiple design options
Proficiency with MS Office, LabView, MiniTab, Solidworks or AutoCAD program;
Strong written and oral communication skills;
Knowledge of ISO (International Organization for Standardization) regulations is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to apply statistical analysis tools such as T-tests, ANOVA and DOE to analyze variance and optimize processes, when appropriate, is desirable.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities and Experience:
Specific process experiences are desired in the design of automated industrial process equipment, web or continuous substrate process development, material packaging, characterization & handling, material feeders, pick and place technology, lid sealing processes, lamination, material properties and selection, packaging processes and materials, vision systems, weigh cells, control systems, in-process inspection, testing and quality control system development.
Additional relevant technical experiences may include: design of precision aqueous/fluidic/dispensing systems precision, flex circuit substrates and metallization, adhesives, in-line surface treatments, pick and place systems, materials handling, laminations, adhesive systems, interfacial chemistry, printing systems and electrochemistry.
Relevant work experiences may include: flexible circuit manufacturing, high volume manufacturing of medical consumables
Knowledge of and experience in materials handling (bio and chemical hazardous materials and controlled substances) is desirable. Should have a working knowledge of modern analytical tools
The individual will be expected to understand and comply with the Quality System Regulation in order to meet all FDA, ISO and IVDD standards
