Senior Manager Engineering
Responsible for development and oversight of Glasgow Manufacturing’s Supplier Operations. The position plays a key role in ensuring reliable supply of non-chemical materials used in production of critical reagents and ongoing improvement of our cost basis. The person in this position will focus on maintaining a robust, reliable supply of non-chemical materials, managing vendor relations and ensuring quality at the source, and developing people within the Supplier Ops organization with a goal to increase problem solving and critical thinking skills and continually improve effectiveness. The position will operate largely as an individual contributor (80%), with managerial responsibilities for budgets, processes and leadership of the people in the Supplier Operations team (20%). Underpinning this strategy is the goal of attaining excellent performance in Siemens’ key areas of Financials, Customers, Employees and Processes; improving efficiencies, removing unnecessary activities and process variation, and developing the capabilities of the organization.
Specific Responsibilities will include:
Develop, plan and lead the execution of all aspects of Glasgow Supplier Operations. Identify cost savings and quality improvement activities and work with the team to prioritize, assign work and follow up to enable objectives to be delivered with promised outcomes. The candidate will employ visual management systems to ensure that progress, obstacles and countermeasures are represented transparently.
The candidate will report on the status of Supplier Operations projects to the Senior Director of Engineering. She/he must understand, embrace and perpetuate all elements of the Siemens Quality System, with all aspects of the Quality System met in the course of daily activities and projects. Change management and risk assessments of all changes are critical. Exceptional written, verbal, facilitation and presentation communication skills are very important. Strong technical skills, particularly in materials, parts molding and understanding of statistical variation are also key skills requirements.
The Senior Manager of Engineering for Supplier Operations will lead his/her own team and provide oversight to other teams making improvements in operations or production support areas, applying a Socratic coaching style that encourages learning and ownership of solutions. The candidate will work to implement best practices found at other Siemens sites into the Glasgow Site as appropriate pursuant to our strategic direction. She/he is expected to reciprocate with those sites and others as they endeavor to incorporate our best practices.
Frequent interactions with key vendors must often be done on location and as such, some travel is required, estimated to be 10% of the time. Developing balanced, impartial relationships with strategic partners is important for successful continuous improvement.
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:
Scientist or Engineer with B.S. with 8+ years of successful experience in a directly related field and successful demonstration of Key Responsibilities and Knowledge as noted.
Six-Sigma Black Belt and/or deep knowledge and demonstrated application of Lean thinking, and Lean tools is a plus.
Directly Related Experience:
Team membership and leadership will be necessary as the incumbent develops, proposes and improves processes that include non-chemical materials. Demonstrated leadership in utilizing continuous improvement methodologies to deliver results is important. Knowledge of and experience with injection and blow molding, polymer science and materials science will be heavily utilized in successful performance of the job.
The incumbent should have a minimum of eight years of broad experience in diagnostics, pharmaceuticals or the chemical process industry with at least five of those years in production, new product development or support in a GMP environment. Six-Sigma Black Belt and/or deep knowledge and demonstrated application of Lean thinking, and Lean tools is a plus.
Problem Solving : Creatively solves technical and operational problems of a non-routine nature and proposes novel, practical activities leadingto incremental improvements to processes and the removal of non-value added activities.The incumbent must find improvements to existing processes and encourage team members to be calculated risk takers.The incumbent must look to take quick action as well as to go the extra step to look for new ways to increase customer satisfaction while ensuring that all tenants of the Quality System are maintained.
Impact and Influence : The incumbent is responsible for influencing vendor selection and relationships in situations where he/she has no direct control. Must quickly understand both tactical and strategic company goals. The incumbent must be a leader in employee and environmental safety, working to coach Teams into being increasingly safety conscious.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:
The candidate must effectively implement identified required changes while building effective coalitions and working to gain early consensus. This person has effective communication skills both with Strategic Procurement, OEM vendors, Site management, as well as with the teams she/he interacts with. The incumbent needs to be able to understand and communicate the underlying issues and their solutions, and puts the customer first when addressing them.
