Job Description:

Senior Accounting Policy Accountant

Primary Job Responsibilities:

-Evaluate existing accounting practices in order to ensure compliance with the Siemens Financial Reporting Guidelines (“FRG’s”) which are based on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and use consistent with the global chart of accounts. This includes balance sheet, income statement, cash flow and notes (ADSTAR) disclosure requirements. Identify gaps in processes, coordinate with SFS Central Accounting and drive necessary changes towards compliance. Draft Accounting memos as necessary

  • Act as key US Accounting resource to evaluate changes to FRG’s in particular related to the new IFRS standards (IFRS 9, IFRS 15 and IFRS 16), potential impact for SFS US and identify action plans to implement and lead US implementation.

  • Facilitate accounting requests within SFS US and from SFS Central (in particular related to impact analysis of new IFRS standards (IFRS 9 and IFRS 16) and partner with US Accounting team and BU’s to evaluate and determine a course of action.

  • Review and interpret new products, and variations of existing products, and evaluate accounting/ reporting complexities. Partner with management team in making the decision as to what can be implemented and what steps need to be taken in order to ensure that the accounting processes can accommodate these products.

  • Provide direct and indirect oversight of Adstar disclosure forms for accuracy, compliance with the FRG’s and consistency with control requirements.

  • Facilitate EY and Internal audit requests as necessary in order to provide information and comfort relating to financial reporting and accounting data.

  • Support, and in some cases lead, remediation efforts of control deficiencies and audit recommendations.

Skill Set required:

  • Ability to understand, interpret and implement technical accounting policy (FRG/IFRS).

  • Fundamental knowledge and experience in financial statement review, general ledger and controls.

  • Strong written/ verbal communication skills in addition to interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities/projects at the same time.

  • Team player

  • Ability to identify and implement practical solutions.

  • Ability to understand issues from an operational perspective and to work with BU’s in finding common ground.

  • Ability to influence without authority

  • Comfort in working on Microsoft applications in addition to participating in system implementations for both GL related projects and sub ledger systems.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree

  • Experience in public accounting and a CPA is required.

  • Masters Degree desirable

  • IFRS accounting background required

  • Experience in financial services desirable, especially in lending or leasing
