Job Description:

We seek an experienced Senior Software (SW)SolutionArchitect (“Architect”) that will play a key role in the continued success of Siemens Power Technologies International, (PTI).

This senior level position requires deep technical knowledge, both of the PTI SW Solutions portfolio, as well as our customer’s enterprise (work-flow) and how the PTI portfolio fits/integrates with other customer applications and systems.

The Architect will develop the solution in conjunction with PTI Product Managers, Project Managers, Engineers and Business Development Managers, as well as third-party hardware and software providers to design an industry leading solution that meets the specific customer requirements. The Architect, together with the Head of Product Management will also coordinate with Siemens Finance and Legal, managing the profit and risk associated with what is being proposed.

Additionally, the Architect will be responsible for coordinating and generating the Request for Proposal (RFP) response, working closely with technical writers and the proposal team.

The Architect is largely a customer facing role that requires the skill set and personality necessary for lengthy customer interaction, demonstrations, defending the proposed solution and ultimately performing the technical due-diligence on the proposed solution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and manage advanced and complex Power System Simulation Software , solution(s) and/or service(s) assigned, including definition of user and functional requirements

  • Provide technical leadership and oversight for sales opportunities involving custom solutions and/or architecturally significant product enhancements

  • Present solutions to prospective customers to facilitate orders

  • Lead Requirements Engineering to ensure properly documented specifications for customized solutions

  • Review architectural designs with stakeholders to ensure universal understanding and agreement

  • Monitor and ensure conformance to the established architectural design during implementation stage

  • Support SW solution deployment through its entire lifecycle

  • Promote good SW engineering practices throughout the organization and act as a mentor and key technical resource

  • Drive reuse of existing functionality across the PTI SW product portfolio

  • Actively collaborate with internal stakeholders including Product Managers, developers, testers, engineers, managers and sales people

  • Actively collaborate with external stakeholders such as customers and industry experts for first-hand involvement in industry challenges, trends and emerging technologies

  • Advise management on business decisions with long-term strategic impact (including product roadmaps)

  • Optimizing the utilization of Third Party Products within the PTI SW landscape

Qualifications & Expectations:

5 to 8 years of successful experience in engineering or software development in the realm of power engineering and successful demonstration of Key Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above.

Demonstrates and applies comprehensive knowledge of the Electric Utility field of specialization to the successful completion of very complex tasks and internal processes. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in SW development, enterprise integration and cyber-security. Demonstrates significant knowledge of business practices and issues faced in proposal development and project delivery, and can positively contribute to problem resolution of these issues.

Thorough knowledge of the sales and large proposal bid process.

Ability to perform multi-task functions in an environment of extreme time constraints, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to effectively work with a wide variety of customers (domestic and foreign). Requires leadership characteristics evidenced by clear and concise communications (verbal and written), a positive attitude. Must be a self-starter.

Broad knowledge of power system planning and operation, system interactions in the planning and operational space, and competitor products.

Education:

Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Electrical (Power Systems) Engineering with academic courses exposure in Electric Energy Grid operations and several years of relevant experience is required, or Masters or PHD degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering is preferred.
