Job Description:

EHS Specialist

Fort Madison, IA

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and direction to the Fort Madison plant on all EHS issues

• Develop and implement EHS programs and processes including emergency preparedness and fire protection, safety risk assessments and safe working procedures, hazardous waste management, HSE training, ergonomics, and crisis management

• Develop and maintain a set of actions to ensure full compliance with company and regulatory agency requirements relating to air, solid waste and water, as well as employee safety and health

• Work with the plant management to ensure operational activities are risk assessed and ensure safe working procedures are developed and followed, with any identified hazards under proper control

*Collaborate with plant management and employees to investigate injuries, near misses and other events to determine root causes and implement effective corrective actions.

• Coordinate efforts with Wind Power’s global division HSE function as well as the regional HSE organization to obtain guidance and support to key initiatives; work collaboratively with all functions of the business to drive our company’s Zero Harm culture

• Provide work direction to the site EHS team; provide support and leadership to site safety committees

• Lead projects to improve compliance processes, employee training, and EHS performance

• Responsible for identification and timely submission of all applicable EHS permits (fire safety occupancy permits and any environmental / operating permits required

• Responsible for site emergency response plan and incident management team

• Develop and maintain local training plans for new hire orientations as well as specific in house safety training for employees and contractors on EHS topics and local rules as well as on the job-specific risks

• Responsible for local compliance audits and reviews necessary to meet company and regulatory requirements

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

• BS/BA degree in a related discipline preferred, or equivalent in education and applicable work experience

• Up to 2 yrs of EHS experience in a diversified industrial manufacturing or chemical operation setting, ideally with ISO 18001 accreditation.

• Prior operational HSE experience, preferably in a large manufacturing environment

• Experience leading a team

• Experience with project management and implementation of EHS programs or policies

• Strong organizational and analytical skills

• Ability to train and motivate employees

• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

• Ability to shift focus and organize priorities in a fast-paced environment

• Strong working knowledge of state and federal EHS regulations and standards

• Superior communication and presentation skills, both oral and written

• Willingness to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders

• Motivation and ability to work a flexible work schedule if required

• Ability to operate in an industrial shop floor environment with occasional work outdoors and in confined spaces

*Experience with Iowa Worker's Compensation law, policy, and procedure

*Experience with root cause analysis and investigation methods (ie: 5 why, tap root, A3, fishbone)

*Must be available to work off-shift hours

*Must be able to maintain confidentiality and abide by HIPPA rules

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other Safety Certifications are preferred

• Experience with EHS management systems, ergonomics, incident investigation processes, industrial hygiene assessments, job hazard analyses, ergonomics, and behavior based safety concepts as well as experience delivering core safety programs
