Snr Manager of Technical Training


We are looking for an experienced Senior Manager of Technical Training to join the manufacturing operations leadership team at our Flanders NJ facility. This is a newly created role that is essential to the sites continued and successful growth. The Flanders facility has undergone a significant expansion in the last 24 months and we are subsequently growing the entire workforce at rapid pace. This is in preparation to meet the customer demands and achieve sales forecast projections. The site has a strong focus on recruiting and training good candidates and this role will be an essential part of the strategies that we deploy to induct new recruits and develop existing talent. This role will drive our commitments to ensure every employee receives the correct training, functions compliantly and has the opportunity to develop within our organization.

The Head of Training will have the vision and experience to help the site setup the training strategies and the training department that will enable the site to manage the influx of new employees. The incumbent will ensure that training and compliance needs are achieved and provide governance of the training protocols.

The current new employee intake is in the region of 15 -25 new employees per month and this influx is expected to continue for the next 2 to 3 years. The new employees are typically manufacturing operations disciplines and have skill sets ranging from engineering, procurement, quality, lab technicians, material logistics, IT, admin and assemblers.

We are committed to continuous improvement in all areas and this includes the employee capability and skill sets. This role will therefore ensure that we look for ways to grow the expertise within the organization. As such, the incumbent will think outside the box and also set long term training strategies, drive training programs, maintain training logs and develop motivational performance metrics (KPIs)

Exceptional communication and the ability to work within a matrix management structure is an essential skill that will be needed for this role. The incumbent will interface with all areas of the Manufacturing Operations and will also have a very close affiliation with the peer functions such as HR, & EHS.

Summary Role Description

Reports to: - Head of Manufacturing Operations

Responsible for:

  • Induction of new recruits and existing employee development programs

  • Training records, compliance and associated governance

  • Leadership and vision of the training function within a growing organization

  • Management of a team of trainers, training coordinators and QA training governance

  • All areas of training, adherence to demands and KPI reporting

  • Promotion of corporate values and employee recognition and development

Requirements (Must haves)

  • A good understanding of healthcare manufacturing environments. Preferably within a high complexity, mid to high volume electro mechanical products.

  • Experience of working within a regulated industry. (for example FDA).

  • 8+ years of successful experience in a related field with a demonstrable track record of success.

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree, preferred Master’s Degree applicant in an industry relevant discipline.

  • A true understanding of the term “quality comes first” in all that they do.

  • A continuous improvement approach coupled with the vision to keep the knowledge and skills base ahead of the curve.

  • The tactical and strategic vision to plan ahead and ensure training is in place up to date and meeting/or exceeding the needs of the business

  • The ability to use and develop meaningful metrics that track performance and drive improvements.

  • A natural ability to influence and develop a diverse team of personnel with varying skill sets.

  • First class communication abilities. Able to work with peers, accurately report status and connect with direct reports and stakeholders.

  • Cost center management and budget control.

  • Strict adherence to procedure and policy. Including, implementation of protocols and team training to achieve compliance requirements. (Typically leveraging experience from a healthcare regulated industry)

  • Motivational approach (via KPI) to encourage individuals to meet deadlines and compliance.

Exceptional communication skills and proven ability to organize large numbers of employees in a classroom and in a 1 to 1 environment

  • Manage resources and implement training strategy to achieve goals in an efficient, cost effective way.

  • Experience of training, teaching and coaching

  • Ability to flex theirworktime around shift patterns so that training and governanceis evident on all shifts.

Requirements (Highly desirable):

  • Microsoft office skills

  • Industry experience in a manufacturing and quality environment

  • Quality and Engineering background

  • FDA experience with audit experience

  • Lean background (SPS, 6 sigma, RCA)

  • CAPA experience and knowledge (ability to coach , own and drive)

  • Knowledge of SAP ERP systems.
