Reporting to a Head of Engineering this role will have responsibility for managing and coordinating Project Change on the Freight ETCS On-Board project to ensure robust change control is implemented on the project, from an early identification of a change to the final acceptance of a change implementation. This role is primarily based in Derby but you will be required to travel to various sites as part of the role.

Supported by the project team, the role will work within the on-board train fitment design team to ensure the changes on the projects are correctly captured and delivered and provide support to the wider project reporting workstreams. The Project Change Engineer will also work with the various centres of competence, technology teams and subject matter experts across the wider Siemens business to develop solutions and processes that meet these needs.

You’ll make an impact by …

  • Working with the project team members in the UK (Derby & Chippenham), to ensure that the project changes are managed through the project change lifecycle.

  • Providing input and ideas to help determine the most appropriate technical, product and commercial solutions within the technical environment whilst meeting customer requirements.

  • Ensuring innovation and value engineering is applied to all proposals.

  • Supporting the development of the Change process

  • Working with Project Managers and Project Engineers to develop impact assessment and implement the outputs from Change Register

  • Working with Project Managers and Project Engineers to propose the optimum strategy to manage design variants within classes

  • Ensuring with effective communication all stakeholders are fully aware of the project changes

  • Coordinating efforts with other specialists

  • Assisting the commercial team with costs and resource forecast

Your success will be grounded by …

  • Having Experience of working in a Rolling Stock Engineering role as a Project Engineer or Project Manager

  • A solid understanding of project change and the change process

  • Having Knowledge and understanding of Commercial and Project Management tools and procedures.

  • The Ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders and project disciplines.

  • Demonstrating ability to follow process to complete tasks (checking, change control etc)

  • Appreciation of working to timescales as part of a wider project programme.

  • Being a team player and able to work collaboratively with others internal and external to Siemens

  • Having appreciation of implementing ETCS, CBTC or similar systems from other sectors.

  • Demonstrating initiative when performing problem solving initiatives.

  • Making verbal and written comments and attending reviews as required in a collaborative, constrictive and ‘best for project’ way.
