This position will focus on following customer requirements, specifications, and proposals to design drive systems and power systems for customer applications. Engineer will be required to work with the drive, the drive system, and associated mechanical and electrical equipment including switchgear, control houses, cooling systems, transformers, etc. Engineer will work closely with drafters to create outline drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, bills of materials, test plans and Operation & Maintenance manuals for the customer.
Engineer will interface with customers, global engineering teams, sale reps, vendors, project managers, and field service personnel. Engineer will execute (individually or as member or leader of an engineering team) highly customized production orders under minimum supervision utilizing product design guides and guidelines, industry standards and best engineering practices. Engineer will provide engineering expertise to drafters/designers on highly customized production orders. Engineer will provide engineering support for Sales, Project Management, Manufacturing, Field Service and Quality Assurance groups during project cycle up to and including commissioning. Engineer will provide technical content for Customized Product manuals.
•Attend or lead design reviews both internally and with customers to resolve technical and programmatic issues.
•Provide support to other company functions during the manufacturing process to bring designs to completion. These functions include operations, procurement, planning, testing, coordination of outside vendors, etc.
•Provide support to customers and the Customer Service group to maintain existing designs and resolve customer field issues.
•Participate and perform action items as a team member or lead projects involving other engineers and cross-functional team members.
Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:
•Education: BS in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology or related discipline required.
•Low Voltage Design
•Motor Control Centers Design (MCC)
•Panels and LV Power distribution design
•Ability to read schematics and interpret customer specifications.
•Must have general knowledge of industrial controls, including relay logic, etc.
•Must be able to interface with customers and vendors and resolve comments and requested changes to internally-generated and international documents and drawings.
•Strong organization and excellent time management skills.
•Possess a familiarity with and follow all engineering policies and procedures.
•Strong verbal and written communication skills.
•Computer skills required: Microsoft Office, Visio, and Project.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:
•Industry knowledge in Marine, Minerals, Oil & Gas and/or Pulp & Paper
•Medium Voltage Design
•Power System Studies (Load Flow, Fault Current, Device Coordination, harmonics)
•Drive/Motor System Design
•PLC/HMI programming and configuration experience
•Knowledge of Siemens S5 and/or S7 PLCs
•Field service background a plus
•Industrial experience with direct experience in power electronics, VFD's (AC/DC), and electrical machinery
•Understands variable frequency drives and their applications
•CAD Software (AutoCAD and/or EPlan)
Direction of Others: Provide general guidance and/or train/support a professional staff.
