About Siemens Technology Department

Siemens Technology is the central in-house research unit at Siemens and as such occupies an outstanding position within Siemens' R&D facilities. It acts as a strategic partner to support Siemens’ business units with R&D services, protects the company’s intellectual property, coordinates the collaboration with top universities worldwide, and supports standardization activities in all business units and regions. Through its R&D activities in Germany, USA, Portugal, China, India, Japan, and Eastern Europe, Siemens Technology helps to secure the company’s technological future and strengthen its ambition.

What role will you play?

• You will work with our partners in international research projects and help craft them in terms of content and strategy for future industrial applications.

• You evaluate and use new technologies, bring in your ideas, implement them and evaluate them in an industrial context.

• You design and develop tools and software components, possibly also as open source.

• You will implement prototypes and proofs of concept in order to make new insights and technologies tangible for us and our customers.

• You analyse, migrate, and optimize existing software and software components.

Your mission will be…

• Drive research in the area of advanced field devices

• Design software architectures in compliance with common design patterns and develop new concepts

• Drive entire development process from concept to delivery, autonomously or in a team together with customers

• Evaluate and integrate third party software components (open-source, commercial)

• Engage in requirement engineering, evaluate feasibility and derive specifications

• Plan, commission, test, and debug IoT devices in laboratory or productive environment

• Drive high quality and technical excellence of our deliveries

• Learn continuously and share with others

We are looking for someone with…

• You have successfully completed your master’s degree and/or PhD’s in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics or engineering sciences.

• Experience in hardware-related programming of real-time operating systems (freeRTOS, Zephyr,…) on microprocessors (Arm Cortex, RISC-V, ESP)

• Excellent knowledge of coding techniques, low-level interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, RS-232, RS-485), protocols and hardware peripherals

• Familiar with compilers (GCC), build systems (Make, CMake) and version control systems (GIT, SVN,…)

• Communication skills and readiness to work in a team as well as autonomously

• Excellent knowledge of system programming language such as C, C++ or RUST

• Knowledge in a high-level programming language is beneficial (Python, Golang, JavaScript)

• Knowledge of distributed systems, especially of sensor networks beneficial

• Familiarity with agile software development methodologies as well as continuous integration and deployment

• Ability to read and understand electronic and mechanic schematics

• Very good English skills
